First question asked,
What made you choose the name Violent Vickie? ( I wanted to ask you this because there may be some who did not give your music a listen due to the name)
Vickie, " At the time I was listening to a lot of riot grrri and punk bands and I wanted to have sort of a feminist punk name, like a woman fighting back against the system. The character reminded me of a garbage pail kid"
2nd, How much has the industry changed since you first got started? Good? Bad?
Vickie, " Well, Streaming has taken over, but when I started pirating was more of a thing. Also , social media has taken over as opposed to physical flyers etc, and record labels are not as relevant as they once were."
3rd, Bots, posers, identity thief, conterfitting merch, I'm sure this list can go on, but have you experienced these 'issues' problems?
Vickie, " Oh- there's a lot of scammers out there on social media that I have come across, probably mainly instagram and facebook."
4th, When you are on stage, touring, do you still feel that same rush , excitement , nervousness as you did when you first started out?
Vickie, " I was a lot more shy when I first started out...but now if I get in front of a bigger audience sometimes that can make me a bit nervous.
5th, Without revealing too much , Do the demands and pursuit of being sucessful interfere with establishing or being in a meaningful personal relationships?
Vickie, " No , I prioritize relationships. Most people in my life are also very busy with what they are doing."
6th, If you could change anything about the industry or perhaps go back and do something differently, what is it?
Vickie, " I wish streaming would pay better , that gigs would pay better, that we were able to reach more of our followers on social media, and that there was more financial support for artists in the U.S. (In Europe there is a lot more support)"
7th, (final question) I think all artists , no matter the art form , want to evolve in a positive way over time. What direction do you see your career/passion going in the years ahead?
Vickie, " I see myself making more dance music more frequently, and obviously I would love to grow as an artist. :) "
*** I wanted to take my time with asking the right questions I thought were important. I have followed V V for a few years and I consider it an honor to have her as my first artist to interview for O.I.A. Creative Works. ***
